Dark metal ensemble Ater have offered "Sleep”, a haunting, heavy romantic ballad. The new video single moves beyond Ater's established realm of shadowy brutality, revealing a gentler facet and a more emotional, introspective arrangement. "Sleep" is the first glimpse of the band's forthcoming third full‑length, Everlasting, set to emerge on 29 January 2027 via Torque Records.
Frontman Fernando Bühring comments: "This is a very different release for us, and I'm sure most of our listeners will be surprised. I have been exploring and expanding the musical boundaries of Ater, and this song is an expression of that. Freedom. Freedom to express myself. We shot the music video with a small team and it was directed by our drummer Vincent Zbinden. 'Sleep' is a very personal song and if you asked me months ago, I would never write something like that. But I did, and it represents well this new facet of sound we developed recently creating this new album".
With a slow, deliberate pace, Ater deliver a ferocious weight interspersed with lingering passages of serene clean tones, carving out a dreamy atmosphere. Bühring's intimate clean vocals evoke a gothic romance — gentle, passionate, and enveloped in an eerie gloom.
Based in Santiago, Chile, the group released their debut album Eternal Gray Spiral in 2018 through Insania Recordings, followed by their sophomore record Somber in 2024 under Torque Records. The year 2025 brought the singles "The Fall" and "Venus", further expanding their sonic identity.
Describing their sound as dark metal or extreme dark metal, Ater construct their music from a fusion of extreme metal and gothic rock. Their production feels both modern and organic, with composer Fernando building songs around guitar and bass lines — often resulting in centred, prominent bass parts in the mix.
