UK industrial‑glam provocateur Raymond Watts, the ever‑shape‑shifting force behind PIG, returns today with a brand new single, “An American Ideal Of Beauty”, released through Metropolis Records. The track marks a reunion of long‑time collaborators: co‑writer Marc Heal (Cubanate, C‑Tec) steps in with co‑vocals and synth work, while guitar duties are shared between Günter Schulz (ex‑KMFDM) and Watts’ regular partner‑in‑crime Jim Davies (ex‑The Prodigy, Pitchshifter).
Watts describes the single as a deliberate refinement of the sonic brutality found on the recent album Hurt People Hurt: “I wanted to distil and hone the sound of the current PIG album, so inviting my old partners in swine Marc and Günter to join Jim and myself in the studio seemed the perfect blend of brutality and beauty to feed, fertilise and transmogrify the hog into Hogzilla. This new single was the first result of our work as a quartet, hammered in the heat of the anvil of hurt.”
The sessions did not end with one track. Three additional new songs emerged, each later reimagined by contemporaries including Chris Hall of Stabbing Westward and Combichrist. All eight pieces — the new material plus remixes — will be collected on the upcoming EP Dirt Box, arriving 4 September, just one week after PIG launches the Hurt People Tour across North America. The massive 44‑date run, including appearances at Cold Waves XIV in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Austin, supports Hurt People Hurt, which earned glowing reviews upon its late‑May release.
A striking new video for “An American Ideal Of Beauty”, directed by E Gabriel Edvy for Blackswitch Labs, is available below — a visual feast steeped in PIG’s trademark decadence, distortion, and dark glamour. Link
