Marianas Rest continue their march toward the release of their forthcoming fifth full-length, The Bereaved, due on 16 January 2026 through Noble Demon.
Following the darkly emotional first single "The Colour Of You", the band now presents their second offering, "Diamonds In The Rough" - a gripping and dynamic piece accompanied by a video, directed by Johannes Mäkinen / Downtime Visual Arts. The song also features a striking guest appearance by Okko Solanterä (Horizon Ignited, Slaughterror), whose powerful vocal performance elevates the track to new heights.
Vocalist Jaakko Mäntymaa reflects on the song's lyrical theme: "I have always had an issue with how we tend to remember those passed. You know, concentrating excessively on the good sides of a person and downplaying imperfections, the whole 'don't speak ill of the dead' thing. What could honour a person more than seeing and remembering him as a whole, flaws and all? This song celebrates memories that stick to what really happened".
Guitarist Nico Mänttäri adds: "Even though usually our music is more about slowly building atmospheres and long and lingering songs, on occasion it is nice to venture a bit more - to the point - rock'n roll type of stuff. This piece ended up being one of those experiments. We had had talks with our dear friend Okko (Solanterä) about doing a feature on this album, and once he ripped his vocal delivery on the chorus of the song, all just fell into place. Really looking forward to playing this one live".
