Swiss doomgaze duo E-L-R have unveiled the mesmerising new track "Cobalt Wound", featuring guest vocals by Shazzula of Belgian doom occult outfit Wolvennest. The composition serves as the final advance single from the band's forthcoming third full-length, Atropa, set for release on 6 November via Prophecy Productions.
Guitarist and vocalist S.M. shared: "The track 'Cobalt Wound' opens a threshold between worlds, where passing away and becoming share the same breath. Together with Shazzula of Wolvennest, whose art and music have accompanied and inspired us for many years, we created a song that feels like a quiet call from the depths – a collaboration that is a great honour".
Art is often born from powerful emotions. Metal and related genres often thrive on the darker side of the human experience. Both commonplace truths apply to E-L-R's Atropa.
The record was shaped during a period of profound transformation and illness, inspiring an artistic exploration of survival, endurance and irreversible change. Musically, the Swiss duo continue to blur the boundaries between doomgaze, post-metal and darker, more abrasive sonic landscapes that resist easy categorisation. E-L-R describe their sound as existing somewhere between weight and dissolution, beauty and poison.
Lyrically, Atropa journeys through grief, delirium, obsessive love and resilience. Its poetic narratives inhabit a liminal realm where longing, loss and transformation become indistinguishable.
The album's title also carries symbolic significance. In botanical terms, Atropa refers to the nightshade family of plants, best known in Europe for deadly nightshade, also called Belladonna due to the historical cosmetic use of its toxin, particularly during the Renaissance period in Italy.
Following a difficult and, at times, painful recording process, E-L-R have crafted what they consider their most complete work to date. Atropa occupies the threshold where irreversible change begins, taking listeners on an emotionally charged journey fuelled by intensity, passion and transformation. Link
