Swiss Illumishade follow their melancholic, groove‑laden May release "Paralyzed" with a far darker offering: "Heatwave", a new track that plunges into apocalyptic territory through shadowy electronic verses and diabolically pitch‑bent riffs.
A haunting, prowling introduction signals immediately that this will be no gentle stroll. When the full ensemble crashes in with jackhammer force, a claustrophobic, earth‑splitting riff clears the path for vocalist Fabienne Erni to foretell impending doom. The track resists any conventional structure; its guitar lines grow increasingly glitch‑ridden and fractured, building like a ticking device towards detonation. Only once does the listener catch a breath — "Our spirits reborn deep in a heatwave" — an eye‑of‑the‑storm moment before the song ignites again.
The inferno intensifies with Adrienne Cowan (Seven Spires), whose guttural delivery scorches everything in its path. Her ferocity collides with Fabienne's crystalline power, turning the song's central conflict — guilt, false hope, and the urge to burn it all down — into a visceral, near‑cinematic experience.
Fabienne Erni comments: "Adrienne's versatility never ceases to amaze me. Her powerful screams, expressive clean vocals, and unique artistic voice made this collaboration something truly special. We felt that this song needed exactly the kind of intensity and character that only she can bring".
Adrienne Cowan adds: "Impending doom, Phrygian dominant melodies, nasty riffs (and I mean that in the best way)... Illumishade cooked a feast of many of my favourite modern metal flavours with "Heatwave", and the pleasure of being Fabienne's dark counterpart at the end of the world was the cherry on top. They're all such wonderfully skilled and hardworking musicians, and I'm very happy to be part of this song. Thanks guys!"
