After an extensive Latin American tour supporting their label-mates Hocico, dark new wave/EBM duo ghostbells have returned with their evocative new single, "Phantoms", out now via Out Of Line Music, along with a striking official music video. The release follows the band's recent singles "Curses" and "The Silence", offering another glimpse into the sonic world of their forthcoming debut full-length album.
Blending icy 1980s-inspired new wave melodies with the driving pulse of 1990s EBM, "Phantoms" fuses modern production with the dancefloor appeal of contemporary techno and pop. Beyond its infectious rhythms lies a poignant love story that transcends death, following two souls whose bond endures beyond the physical world. After one lover passes on, the other eventually joins them, fulfilling a promise echoed throughout the song's haunting refrain: “Our ghosts will dance tonight.”
The concept for "Phantoms" emerged from a vivid and cinematic image. The band envisioned two spirits dancing alone in a vast ballroom, completely absorbed in one another as they recount the story of their lives and the journey that brought them together once more.
Speaking about the track, ghostbells explain: “'Phantoms' is about two people who are bound by love into the afterlife. One person crosses over before the other, and the living eventually reunites with their lover.”
The new single arrives amid a breakthrough year for the duo. Since the release of their debut EP Catacouture, ghostbells have performed at major events including the UK's Infest Festival and Germany's Dark Summer Open Air, sharing stages with artists such as Blutengel and Chrom. Their growing reputation has also led to an expanding catalogue of remixes, with reworkings for acts including Blutengel ("Schwarzer Engel"), Cemetery Skyline ("Torn Away") and Blitz Union ("Evolution").
The momentum shows no signs of slowing. Upcoming performances will take the band to Texas and Florida before appearances at Germany's Plage Noire Festival in Wangels and Obsidian Echoes Festival in Essen this November. Looking further ahead, ghostbells are also set to appear at Amphi Festival in 2027, continuing their ascent as one of dark electronic music's most promising emerging acts. Link
