One year after the release of his ORIGINS EP, dystopian darkwave and synthwave artist Das Mörtal returns with DECVY I (Decay), a compelling new mini-album out now via Lisbon Lux Records. The seven-track release marks the beginning of an ambitious trilogy that explores themes of physical and mental deterioration, examining the darker corners of obsession, illness and exhaustion through the producer's distinctive cinematic sound.
Now based in Montréal (Canada), Das Mörtal began his artistic journey in Berlin, where he developed a fascination with electronic music inspired by artists such as Steve Moore and Aphex Twin. Over the years, he has forged a sound that seamlessly blends darkwave, synthwave and techno influences with the eerie atmospheres of classic horror and science-fiction film soundtracks.
Written during a period of personal health struggles, DECVY I (Decay) transforms experiences of pain, isolation and fatigue into a powerful sonic statement. Hypnotic synth lines, thunderous rhythms and the artist's trademark dystopian aesthetic drive a collection of tracks that balance emotional vulnerability with relentless dancefloor energy.
Alongside the mini-album, Das Mörtal has unveiled a lyric video for its standout track, "Restless". Opening with an unexpectedly melodic and accessible touch, the song pairs shimmering synth motifs with looming basslines before evolving into a driving fusion of darkwave and synthwave. Through haunting vocals and evocative lyrics, "Restless" captures the frustration, isolation and unease that often accompany illness. Building steadily throughout its runtime, the track ultimately erupts into a powerful instrumental climax that showcases Das Mörtal's mastery of atmosphere and tension.
With DECVY I (Decay), Das Mörtal delivers one of his most personal and immersive releases to date, laying the foundation for a trilogy that promises to delve even deeper into the psychological and physical limits of the human experience. Link
