Italian darkwave artist Lilinanna has released her captivating new single and accompanying video, “Vampire Desire”. Inspired by Italy’s rich gothic romantic tradition, the track blends haunting post-punk basslines with vintage synth textures, creating an atmosphere where beauty, danger, and obsession intertwine. Expanding the mythology of her Veiled Saint universe, the release is accompanied by cinematic visuals and nocturnal imagery that evoke a long-lost vampire film.
With "Vampire Desire", Lilinanna delves into the darker dimensions of human attraction, portraying a relationship in which passion and self-destruction become inseparable forces. Vampirism serves as a powerful metaphor for a bond that transcends the limits of conventional love, blurring the boundaries between two identities until they are almost indistinguishable. Throughout the song, blood, bites, skin, and breath converge into a sensual yet unsettling narrative where surrender and loss of control go hand in hand.
Commenting on the track, Lilinanna explains: “There is no clear line between attraction and danger: the very thing that draws the protagonists together is also what seems to consume them. Love and death become two sides of the same experience, while a reference to the sun introduces a contrast to the traditional nocturnal nature of the vampire. Here, the figure of the vampire seems to represent, above all, a longing for an absolute union, one as intense as it is impossible to sustain without consequences.”
The accompanying video, directed by Luca Diomedi, further amplifies the song’s gothic and cinematic character, bringing its themes of desire, obsession, and transformation vividly to life.
