Electro-industrial pioneers Alien Faktor have returned with “Hanging By A Threat”, a hard-hitting, politically charged anthem confronting the turmoil of the modern world. Blending anger, conviction, and social commentary, the track serves as the first single from Stockholm Syndrome, the band's first album in 28 years, scheduled for release on 15 January 2027.
Project founder Thomas L. Muschitz emerged from a lengthy hiatus determined to address rising intolerance, division, and authoritarianism through music. Driven by crushing percussion, aggressive synth programming, heavy guitar work, and revolutionary samples, “Hanging By A Threat” transforms frustration into a call for resistance and unity.
Now based in Madison, Wisconsin, Muschitz has reunited with longtime collaborator Mike Hunsberger on guitar and programming. Inspired by his work in film and audio production, Muschitz began writing new material in late 2025, laying the foundation for Stockholm Syndrome and a long-awaited new chapter for Alien Faktor.
While remaining rooted in the project's classic 1990s electro-industrial sound, the forthcoming album expands its sonic palette with EBM rhythms, noise-driven textures, psychedelic atmospheres, and modern production techniques. The result is a work that honours Alien Faktor's legacy while firmly engaging with the realities of the present.
"I have felt sickened at the state of my nation, and to a larger extent, many of the same issues that seem to be infecting the world at large," says Muschitz. "Turning despair into anger, and clinging to the vestiges of hope, I did the one thing that I have always done: create art. It was time to return, raise my voice, and speak loudly."
With “Hanging By A Threat”, Alien Faktor deliver a powerful statement of defiance, urging listeners to reject hatred and fear while embracing compassion, solidarity, and action. Link
