Symphonic metal ensemble Xandria have shared the second video single, "Colours", from their new record, Eclipse, poised to break cover on 7 August with Napalm Records.
Throughout the track, a large classical choir takes centre stage, while cinematic orchestral arrangements collide with modern metal riffing. Meanwhile, vocalist Ambre Vourvahis showcases her remarkable range, shifting between multiple vocal styles with an ease matched only by her conviction—a versatility rare not only in symphonic metal but across the wider metal spectrum. From harsh vocals to full operatic delivery, "Colours" crafts a sound that is at once grand, contemporary, and commanding—a compelling demonstration of what modern symphonic metal can achieve.
Band mastermind Marco Heubaum on "Colours": "This is the second song from our upcoming album that we are proud to share with you. Together with the first single, 'The Shannon's Home', it offers another glimpse into the many different colours of the album—a journey full of discoveries, unexpected turns, and quite a few surprises. Just as diversity makes our world richer, it also shapes this album. Different voices, different perspectives, different emotions—all part of what makes life richer, stronger and more beautiful".
While The Wonders Still Awaiting (2023) marked the rebirth of Xandria with a refreshed line‑up—an album that opened the door to a new era—Eclipse pushes further. It is more focused, more direct, and lyrically more outspoken, addressing the realities of our civilisation today. The contrasts are sharper, and the varied musical and vocal colours feel even more naturally woven into the compositions. As Xandria's sole composer, Marco Heubaum draws inspiration from every corner of his surroundings—music, stories, and emotions that have shaped him since childhood. His long‑standing affinity for film scores remains evident, particularly the influence of composers such as Hans Zimmer and John Williams.
Among the guests, Xandria welcome Subway To Sally violinist Ally Storch, who appears on "Lore", while long‑time friend McAlbi contributes Celtic tin and low whistles to four tracks: "The Shannon's Home", "Northstar", "Masquerade", and "Lore". "The Last Generation" features a children's choir and piano performed by Richard Z. Wang, a Hollywood pianist known for his work at Hans Zimmer's studio. The band also once again collaborated with the Sofia Session Orchestra & Choir, renowned for their contributions to numerous film and television scores, including His Dark Materials. All orchestral arrangements were crafted by Hollywood film‑score composers Lukas Geppert (whose credits include Nobody 2 and the latest Final Destination) and Ishaan Tyagi (known for work on Wuthering Heights).
