Swiss atmospheric blackgaze/post‑metal visionaries Wazzara emerge from the shadows once more, unveiling their new single and video “9 Confines” as the first glimpse into their forthcoming album Arbor, set for release on 13 February. After a decade of forging their own path through mist‑shrouded soundscapes, the band steps into a new creative chapter — one steeped in transformation, introspection, and mythic resonance.
Vocalist Babs describes “9 Confines” as a descent into the seeker’s path, a journey toward a truth hidden behind layers of unease and inner darkness.
“‘9 Confines’ tells the story of a seeker’s journey toward a hidden truth — a journey of transformation. This cannot be undertaken without introspection and the burden of deep unease. It is about shadow work: about entering the darkness, going to where it hurts, and facing the horrifying. In the end, you may find yourself changed yet deeply connected — or lose your mind.”
She adds that the song draws heavily from the symbolism of the Hermit tarot card, the hermeneutic circle, and Dante’s descent — influences that also shape the visual language of the accompanying video.
With Arbor, their fourth full‑length release, Wazzara channels a decade of evolution into a work that merges darkness, weight, and ethereal luminosity. The album interlaces atmospheric black metal, doom, and blackgaze into a sonic tapestry that feels both ancient and immediate — a call from deep roots and distant stars.
Dedicated to those unafraid to taste the “untamed fruit,” Arbor speaks of forgotten forces stirring again, of voices once silenced rising with renewed clarity. It is a reminder that the tree of wisdom was never severed; we remain its roots, its trunk, its crown. Sapere aude.
For listeners drawn to the emotional vastness of Austere, the woodland mysticism of In The Woods…, or the spectral beauty of Myrkur, Wazzara’s return promises an album not to be overlooked. Link
