Only days after announcing their forthcoming full‑length Sternensegler—slated to arrive on 11 September through Napalm Records—German folk rock institution Schandmaul reveal the record's title track alongside its accompanying music video. The group's twelfth studio offering marks a significant new chapter in the ensemble's long history, as Sternensegler is the first release to feature vocalist Till Herence.
With this refreshed line‑up, the Munich‑based outfit reach for the stars—quite literally—and the title track encapsulates this renewed spirit with striking clarity. Buoyant melodies intertwine with lyrics steeped in hope and forward momentum, creating an atmosphere that feels both uplifting and resolute. Although recent years have brought their share of turbulence, Schandmaul have remained steadfast, navigating every challenge with unity, resilience, and their unmistakable artistic identity. Sternensegler stands as a testament to that perseverance.
The group comment on the new track: "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We've got a tailwind and are finally taking off again. Wherever this journey takes us, we're on board together and ready for whatever lies ahead".
Schandmaul rise convincingly from storm‑tossed waters and steer toward calmer, shimmering horizons under the guidance of their seasoned captain Thomas Lindner. With the addition of longtime companion Till Herence, the crew operate with seamless cohesion on Sternensegler—transforming the record itself into the guiding star for their next artistic voyage.
Speaking about the upcoming album, the ensemble add: "Our Sternensegler rises powerfully like a phoenix from the ashes—and that same strength is reflected in these new songs. They symbolize rebirth and are a sign of unity and friendship. That's how you deal with setbacks. Giving up was never an option for us. Let's look ahead and set sail for new horizons!"
The new record also carries additional treasure: select editions include a bonus album featuring instrumental harp interpretations of seven tracks, as well as the previously issued "Räuber und Narren" ("Outlaws And Fools"), a collaboration with fellow medieval rock stalwarts Subway To Sally. Link
