German dark electro-pop pioneers Rotersand, the acclaimed duo of Rascal Nikov (vocals, electronics) and Krischan Jan-Eric Wesenberg (electronics), are preparing to celebrate their 25th anniversary with a series of special single releases through Metropolis Records.

The campaign begins with a remastered version of the band's original 2001 demo recording of their debut single, "Merging Oceans". Accompanying the track are three new remixes of "Train", a fan-favourite from Rotersand's critically praised 2025 album Don't Become The Thing You Hated.

Despite emerging more than two decades apart, the two songs reveal deeply personal and contrasting facets of the band's artistic identity. The dreamlike atmosphere of "Merging Oceans" was inspired by a newspaper story about a sailor obsessed with navigating every sea on Earth aboard an ancient wooden vessel. In contrast, the relentless, hypnotic pulse of "Train" draws from one of Rascal Nikov's most intimate experiences: the childhood trauma of losing his mother at an early age. For years, that unresolved grief manifested itself in a recurring nightmare of being trapped aboard a speeding train from which he could never escape, no matter how desperately he tried.

Together, these two compositions form a compelling snapshot of a band whose influence on the European electronic scene has remained steadfast for a quarter of a century. Seamlessly blending electro, industrial, techno and contemporary electronic dance elements with powerful club energy and evocative atmospherics, Rotersand have continuously transcended genre boundaries while maintaining a distinctive artistic identity.

By linking one of their earliest recordings with one of their most recent successes, "Merging Oceans / Train" serves as both a celebration of Rotersand's enduring legacy and a testament to their continued relevance within today's electronic music landscape, offering something equally compelling for long-time followers and new listeners alike.
