The UK’s undisputed gothic/doom pioneers Paradise Lost have unleashed the official video for "Salvation", a standout track from their latest full‑length opus, Ascension, released in September via Nuclear Blast Records.
The clip, directed, produced, and edited by Ash Pears of AshTV, embraces a raw, guerrilla filmmaking spirit — a DIY project that mirrors the band’s uncompromising ethos. Adding further gravitas, "Salvation" features guest backing vocals from none other than Alan Averill of Primordial, weaving an extra layer of haunting resonance into the track.
Frontman Nick Holmes reflects on the song’s thematic weight: "'Salvation' embraces the belief in a higher power and seeking forgiveness for a lifetime of transgression, typically prompted by the approach of death or a significant crisis... However, the video, and given that it is Christmas, takes perhaps a more optimistic view. It portrays the connection between two individuals committed to upholding a beacon, a symbol they will protect until their last breath and pass on for others to embrace. Whether this force is ultimately good or bad will always remain a mystery."
With Ascension already hailed as a towering chapter in their legacy, Paradise Lost are set to carry its momentum into 2026. February and March will see the band embark on the second leg of the Ascension Of Europe tour, joined by doom heavyweights Saturnus, Cwfen, and Shores Of Null — a line‑up destined to plunge audiences deep into the shadows.
Paradise Lost continue to prove that even after decades at the forefront of gothic doom, their flame burns bright — a beacon of darkness, resilience, and transcendence.
And for those eager to dive even deeper: Terra Relicta will soon publish an in‑depth interview with guitarist Gregor Mackintosh. Stay tuned. Link
