Influential avant-garde artist Jarboe, a former member of the legendary Swans, will embark on a UK and European tour in May 2026. She will present a powerful collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Thor Harris (ex-Swans, Shearwater) and vocalist/composer Joy Von Spain (Eye Of Nix).
Jarboe's live set promises an immersive journey through decades of boundary-pushing music, drawing from her vast catalogue of industrial, experimental, and atmospheric works. The trio will also premiere two ambient pieces from her forthcoming album Sightings. This performance will be a union of ritual, sound, and raw emotion—three distinct voices from the experimental underground converging in transformative harmony.
Her new album, Sightings, is an eclectic sonic voyage inspired by mystical encounters with the natural world, symbolised by the fleeting presence of the vireo bird. It will be released on 3 April 2026 via Consouling Sounds, with artwork painted by Phil Puleo (Swans).
Jarboe's tour unites two titans of contemporary experimental music. Thor Harris, an Austin-based multi-instrumentalist, sculptor, and writer, is best known as Swans' dynamic percussionist (2010–2016). His versatile career spans contributions to Shearwater (2001–2010), Bill Callahan, and his own ensemble, Thor & Friends.
Joy Von Spain, a Dutch-based vocalist, keyboardist, and modern classical composer, is a central figure in the Pacific Northwest heavy music scene. As the voice of Eye Of Nix, her work explores a compelling blend of neoclassical and experimental soundscapes.
One of the fiercest spirits in modern music, Jarboe is an intelligent and aggressive artist possessed of striking musical skill who has rejected the music industry's all-too-easy stereotyping and exploitation to create shockingly powerful visions. Her singular vocal range—shifting from emotive blues and gospel tones to unrestrained shrieks—perfectly complements her wide-ranging musical palette, from industrial dance to atmospheric psych-folk.
Jarboe is a multi-disciplinary artist whose creative endeavours extend into visual art, literature, and theatre. With Swans, she and founder Michael Gira released some of the most musically extreme recordings of their era. Since then, she has become ever more prolific, issuing numerous solo works and collaborations. Jarboe remains a singular, ever-evolving force in the arts—an artist of vision, intensity, and uncompromising creativity. Link
