Leading the campaign for their upcoming studio album Monumental, out 23 October via Napalm Records, Ukrainian modern‑metal architects Ignea present their third single, “Prefab”. The track arrives as a hard‑hitting industrial metal anthem and features a standout guest appearance from Andy LaPlegua of Combichrist, whose unmistakable vocal presence merges seamlessly with Helle Bohdanova’s delivery, amplifying the song’s atmosphere into a full‑scale rave soundtrack for metalheads.

Monumental revolves around the idea of nostalgia, and “Prefab” explores two of its central pillars: architecture and collective memory. The song examines how physical structures shape emotional landscapes, especially within societies marked by authoritarian pasts.

Helle Bohdanova explains: “‘Prefab’ reflects on the darker side of nostalgia—prefabricated socialist buildings, originally meant to give everyone a roof over their heads. But like many socialist ideals, the concept was flawed at its core: uniform, industrial, stripping people of individuality and personal choice, making them feel like ants inside their own homes.”  
She notes that these structures still dominate skylines across Europe—from Ukraine and Poland to Germany and France—carrying memories that are often bittersweet, rooted in poverty and authoritarian rule.

Growing up in a post‑Soviet environment, Ignea witnessed firsthand how the remnants of a failed system continue to shape identity. Bohdanova adds: “Even knowing how flawed it was, many people still feel a pull toward certain parts of Soviet life. And it’s not just us—plenty of Westerners romanticize Soviet aesthetics too, nostalgic for a past they never lived.”

The video for “Prefab” channels this tension through a claustrophobic, uniform setting: a cramped room echoing the typical Soviet apartment, where only the tenants change while the space remains frozen in time.

From the earliest demo stages, the band imagined Andy LaPlegua’s voice woven into the track. “We basically heard Andy’s vocals in the back of our minds,” Bohdanova says. “Having Combichrist as part of an industrial metal banger on our upcoming album—what could be more iconic? Tune into this ‘cementery for serial dreams’ and try not to headbang!”
