Canadian dark‑electropop artist Eva X returns with “Dance In Shadows”, the preview single for her forthcoming album Turbopink, set for release on 6 November. Equal parts synth‑pop, metal, millennial J‑pop energy, and 80s neon nostalgia, the track channels a primal scream for lost friends and empty dancefloors — wrapped in a bright, shimmering sonic palette.
“Dance In Shadows” was born from grief. Eva X songwriter Gaby Gustafson completed the track after the death of a co‑worker and friend to an aggressive form of cancer. “I had written a super sad song originally, but I knew she’d hate that,” Gustafson explains. “It was really important to her to find joy wherever she could. So I reworked the track into ‘Dance In Shadows’ — our happy little song about death.”
The result is a bittersweet anthem that radiates colour even as it confronts loss, turning mourning into movement and memory into melody. Gustafson’s bright vocal delivery contrasts with the song’s emotional core, creating a tension that feels both cathartic and celebratory.
For the B‑side, Stoneburner offers a breakbeat‑driven remix that sharpens the track’s club‑ready edge, pushing Eva X’s dancefloor sensibilities into a more percussive, industrial‑leaning territory.
“Dance In Shadows” marks the beginning of the Turbopink era — a fusion of grief, glitter, and high‑energy electronic storytelling that promises one of Eva X’s most vibrant releases yet. Link
