Italian atmospheric black/doom/folk metal act Dawn Of A Dark Age have unveiled their new single “Il Rito Della Consacrazione”, taken from the forthcoming album Ver Sacrum, which will be released on 12 December via My Kingdom Music.

Led by talented jazz musician Vittorio Sabelli, the project continues to push boundaries by fusing the iconoclastic fury of avant‑garde black metal with the refinement and experimentation of the clarinet. The instrument takes centre stage, guiding a sound that rises from ancient folk traditions and merges with the extremity of modern metal.

Ver Sacrum also introduces a new voice: Ignazio Cuga, aka Brusiòre, from Sardinian folkish black metal band Kre’U. His presence adds fresh depth and pathos, intensifying the album’s darker and more sinister atmospheres. Thematically, the record revisits the legacy of the Samnites and the ancient ritual of the Sacred Spring (Ver Sacrum) — a social and religious practice rooted in pre‑Roman times.

Musically, Ver Sacrum promises a unique blend of extreme metal, folk, and jazz, balanced in a way that tells timeless stories through sound. The album is further enriched by striking cover artwork from Norwegian photographer Kjetil Karlsen, underscoring its role as a documentation of dark ancient art.

Fans of Agalloch, Wolves In The Throne Room, Primordial, Saor, and White Ward will find much to admire in this ambitious new chapter from Dawn Of A Dark Age. Link
