The descent continues. Following the grim introduction of "Smeden", Sweden's Änterbila returns with a new ritual: "Årsgång", the second single from their forthcoming album, Avart, due on 14 November via Nordvis Produktion.
Where the hammer falls, the spirits stir. "Årsgång" (Eng. Year Walk) channels the raw power and ancient dread of its namesake - a Scandinavian ritual of divination where one walks at midnight through a churchyard. The track, like the album itself, is told from the perspective of the damned, immersing the listener in a world of folklore and untamed nature.
The band states: "'Årsgång' captures the dark and mystifying atmosphere of a traditional Scandinavian folk ritual. Rooted in rural belief, the ritual was used as a form of divination to foresee the future, where one might encounter the terrifying Gloson."
Mixed by Lars Broddesson (Hild, ex-Marduk) and mastered by Thomas von Wachenfeldt, the sound of "Årsgång" is a vicious and spectral force. Grime-caked riffs and visceral rhythms combine to create an experience that is both aggressive and haunting. The band's uncompromising vision, rooted in real-life experiences as blacksmiths and guided by their founding DIY ethos, shines through every note.
Avart is a grim and immersive experience that plunges deeper into the shadows of folklore. It is a testament to the band's uncompromised vision - a raw, in-your-face sound in the vein of Darkthrone, Arckanum, and Taake, yet one that remains uniquely their own. Link
