The track draws partial inspiration from the horror film Obsession and its character Nikki, portrayed by Inde Navarrette, whose emotional volatility helped shape the song’s lyrical core.

Vocalist Cassie Bishop explains the spark behind the writing: “I wrote the lyrics to this song based off the movie Obsession, which I loved and thought was a unique and fun idea for a horror movie. I wanted to capture some of the elements and mood of the film in this song.”

While the words lean into darker emotional territory, the duo twist that mood into something unexpectedly bright. “Obsessed” rides on an upbeat synth‑pop chassis, driven by shimmering electronics and the unmistakable pulse of the duo’s affection for 80s production aesthetics.
