Nytt Land has presented the first single and video, "Hailabmi Xulembi (The Ritual Of Exorcising An Evil Dead Spirit)", from its forthcoming album, Songs Of The Shaman. The ninth full-length (including self-releases) of the Siberian ritual folk band from Kalachinsk will see the light of day on 16 May via Prophecy Productions.
Nytt Land's throat singer and multi-instrumentalist Anatoly Pakhalenko comments: "The song 'Hailambi Xulembi' is an ancient Tunguso-Manchurian traditional shamanic spell to exorcise the evil spirit of a dead man who haunts living people. The lyrics of this track are taken from the ancient shamanic rituals of the Tungus-Manchurian peoples of Southern Siberia, who have been described in ethnographic monographs by Russian and Chinese scientists studying the way of life and religious worldviews of these people in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. 'Hailambi Xulembi' was recorded in compliance with the preliminary protective shamanic rituals, some of which were filmed for the video clip. They were performed without abbreviations in the original language with the most accurate preservation of the phonetics and the power of this ancient shamanic spell. This recording may be used for shamanic and neo-shamanic rituals".
On the Songs Of The Shaman album, Nytt Land interprets traditional shamanic songs or spells of Siberia's Manchu–Tungus ethnolinguistic groups. These songs used ancient musical techniques such as throat singing and drums and were recorded in their original language - to preserve the power that lies in the sound and phonetics, as well as the rhythm of the texts. This collection of primordial magic in the shape of songs summoning spirits, incantations, and wards has been carefully selected and deliberately excludes spells aimed at causing harm.
With Songs Of The Shaman, Nytt Land takes the ones willing to hear on a journey to a place in time and space where spirits rule and even gods fear to tread. Listen with caution!
Nytt Land came into being as a ritualistic Nordic folk band envisioned by the husband and wife duo Natalya and Anatoly Pakhalenko in the Western Siberian town Kalachinsk, on the banks of River Om and crossed by the Trans-Siberian Railway, in August 2013. True to its often dark and mysterious subjects, the Nytt Land's lyrics echo myth and stories from Norse and Siberian legends and historical sources and are told in the languages of both indigenous Siberian tribes and Old Norse.
