Poland's black metal duo Kir has presented the first single, "Apoptosis", from its forthcoming debut album, L'appel du vide. The single offers a gripping introduction to Kir's unique sound and immersive storytelling. L'appel du vide is set for release on 6 December through Godz Ov War Productions.
"Apoptosis" takes listeners through a soundscape of decay and introspection, capturing the essence of disintegration - in self and society. With spacious tremolos, heavy, doom-laden riffs, and Harvest's evocative vocal work, "Apoptosis" is a dark, powerful piece that confronts life's fragility and the inevitability of entropy. The song's atmosphere, layered with philosophical undertones and existential weight, embodies Kir's commitment to creating music that resonates emotionally and intellectually.
Kir is a bold voice emerging from the shadows of Kraków's underground, driven by a deep-rooted desire to push boundaries within black metal. The band was born from a decade-long partnership between Harvest and Ferment, who share a history of collaborations across diverse projects. Kir's music aims to evoke an experience rather than simply perform, creating immersive soundscapes where heavy riffs and haunting melodies intertwine with layered atmospherics.
Kir's approach is grounded in a fascination with exploring the darker layers of the human psyche and the eerie pull of life's most unsettling thoughts. Each composition is carefully constructed, balancing intensity with introspective depth - the music defies simple classification, drawing on influences that span metal subgenres and beyond, resulting in a textured, evocative, and profoundly unsettling sound.
With its commitment to storytelling through sound, Kir crafts pieces that are as much about atmosphere and emotion as they are about precision and skill. Its work reflects a profound awareness of music as an art form that can challenge, disturb, and inspire - making Kir a band that doesn't just perform music but lives and breathes it. Link
