US new formation Eternal Recurrence have revealed their eponymous new single, featuring a guest vocal performance by Mordian (Diamorte, Shield Of Wings). Drawing inspiration from chamber music, Eternal Recurrence offer an alternative, more intimate interpretation of modern symphonic metal. "Eternal Recurrence" serves as the title track from the project's forthcoming, self‑titled debut EP, due later this year.

In "Eternal Recurrence", the metaphor of a sea voyage becomes a symbolic journey through the grief and emotional turmoil of experiencing miscarriages. Nautical imagery permeates not only the lyrics but also the instrumental arrangement. The minor‑key writing and driving rhythm of the Ashoka‑style theme evoke the inevitable storms encountered along the way, while the closing piano rendition — a softer, major‑key variation — suggests gentle lapping waves and a safe arrival into harbour.

Project founder, multi‑instrumentalist, and composer C. Alex Luke comments: "For those fighting against such choppy waters, it can be emotionally devastating to watch friends and family experience 'smooth sailing' as they have healthy children seemingly easily and without any difficulties or complications. After a couple of miscarriages, it can feel like the cycle of pregnancy and loss will 'eternally recur'".

Guest vocalist Mordian, who also appeared on the first single "Precious Stones", returns here with an ethereal presence, contributing powerful harmonised duets with C. Alex Luke and an emotive lament in the song's bridge.

All material on Eternal Recurrence EP was composed around a chamber ensemble featuring German Dmitriev on violins, Steven Schumann on cellos, Maciek Szczyciński on double bass, and C. Alex Luke on piano. These elements intertwine with aggressive guitars, expressive lead work, and drumming rooted firmly in modern metal.

Released independently in 2026, Eternal Recurrence EP functions as both an introduction and a mission statement — presenting symphonic metal that values realism, restraint, and emotional detail without sacrificing heaviness or intensity. The project stands at the intersection of classical tradition and contemporary metal, prioritising authenticity, composition, and the expressive imperfections that only human performers can provide.

Based in Chicago, Illinois, Eternal Recurrence was founded in 2025 by multi‑instrumentalist and composer C. Alex Luke. Known for blending progressive and extreme metal with classical instrumentation, the project adopts a chamber‑music approach to symphonic metal, emphasising nuance and the expressiveness of real musicians over large‑scale orchestral simulation.

Drawing influence from Kamelot, Epica, Opeth, Dream Theater, and Revocation, Eternal Recurrence balance intricate compositions with aggressive modern metal. While traditional symphonic metal often relies on massive orchestras or dense sampled arrangements, Eternal Recurrence is built on the belief that the human touch of live performance remains essential — especially in an era increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.

Rather than emulating 19th‑ and 20th‑century symphonic traditions, the project turns to chamber music for inspiration. Designed for smaller spaces and intimate performances, chamber ensembles emphasise clarity, interaction, and detail — a philosophy that defines the sound of Eternal Recurrence. Link
