US dark industrial act Choke Chain have unveiled their new studio effort, Decomposition, released under Negative Gain Productions on CD, vinyl, and digital formats.
The record stands as the aural equivalent of existential dread, pushing the project's trademark bleakness into even harsher territory. While Choke Chain has long confronted themes of despair and human cruelty, Decomposition takes these ideas to another level. Completely raw, abrasive, and uncompromising, the EP drags the listener into a profoundly dark psychological space — and across its entire runtime, there is not a single moment of relief.
The thematic core of Decomposition centres on humanity's persistent inability to show kindness or empathy, instead remaining obsessed with killing, destruction, and self‑annihilation. This worldview permeates every track, shaping the EP into a stark reflection of modern existential collapse.
Founder Mark Trueman explains: "The EP was mostly written during a time where I was very close to giving up. Everything felt completely hopeless, and still does to some degree. I really tried to put all of that feeling into these songs. I also tried to confront some of my personal trauma on this record, which is something I've pretty explicitly tried not to do through my music in the past". Link
