English dark psychedelic post‑punk icons And Also The Trees have released their new single and video “The Silver Key”, taken from their forthcoming album The Devil’s Door, due on 27 February. The record marks the final chapter in a trilogy that began with The Bone Carver (2023) and continued with Mother‑of‑pearl‑Moon (2024), showcasing the current line‑up at its most refined and evocative.
Described as a “quiet storm” of an album, The Devil’s Door blends filmic tension, poetic intensity, and a subtle current of dark psychedelia. The band’s signature elements — orchestral guitar, vivid lyricism, and compositions shaped by newsreel, oil paintings, and folklore — remain central, while new textures emerge through unexpected instrumentation, including a guest appearance by violinist Catherine Graindorge. The result is a soundworld where John Barry’s cinematic sweep brushes against the angular modernism of Béla Bartók.
Formed in 1979 in rural Worcestershire, And Also The Trees have long drawn inspiration from the shadows and splendour of the British countryside. Their distinctive mandolin‑like guitar style, atmospheric storytelling, and dark jazz‑inflected rhythms have earned them a reputation for captivating live performances and a fiercely independent creative path spanning more than four decades.
The band’s enduring connection with The Cure continues into 2026: And Also The Trees will join them as special guests for three shows at the Festival de Nîmes in southern France in late July. These appearances follow a run of early‑spring dates across Belgium, France, and Greece. Link
