Swedish gothic rock band Scheitan has stirred the shadows once again with the release of their latest single and music video, "Döden är helt underbar" ("Death is Absolutely Wonderful"). Marking a significant moment in the band’s evolution, the track is their first to feature lyrics in Swedish—a deliberate choice timed to coincide with a major national radio appearance.
The single arrives just weeks before Scheitan’s highly anticipated new album, Wine For A Tormented Soul, drops on 19 December via The Circle Music. In a rare move, the band will perform "Döden är helt underbar" live on Swedish state radio P4 on the day of the album’s release. The track will also be played throughout the week of 15-19 December, giving listeners a taste of the band’s latest sonic descent into darkness.
Scheitan's mastermind Pierre Törnkvist explained the strategic timing: “We did not plan to release any more singles before the album release in December, but as we were offered a live slot on Swedish radio close to the release date, we had to think it over... As 'Döden är helt underbar' is the only Scheitan song so far with Swedish lyrics, we decided to release it a few weeks before the album hits the audience.”
He describes the song as “a twisted journey into the darkest place of the human mind, where only death remains. A haunting ballad of death, worship and fear.”
Scheitan’s upcoming album Wine For A Tormented Soul is a deeply personal offering, featuring eight tracks including previously released singles "Carry Me Home", "Heaven Tonight", and "Love n Death". Törnkvist shared that the album reflects a decade of personal loss and emotional upheaval, including the passing of his father and a close friend.
“Music is my therapy, it is my best friend in dark times,” he said. “Some of the songs have been presented to people as singles, with the upcoming album you can hear them in the context of an album, and also listen to them in a non-digital format such as vinyl which I think is the best way to do it.”
With the album’s release and radio performance on the horizon, Scheitan is preparing to bring their new material to the stage. Törnkvist promises: “We will try to come out and play these new songs for you as much as we can.”
