Today sees the release of "Feu d'un regard", the second cut from innovative French black metallers Mourir. The piece arrives as a harbinger of their forthcoming sophomore full‑length, Nous, le venin, slated for arrival on 10 July via Pelagic Records.

To mark the track release, the band are unveiling a live video filmed during the recording sessions for Nous, le venin last January. The clip documents the album's creation and showcases the first two singles, "Nous, le venin" and "Feu d'un regard", performed live in the studio.

The video remains true to the album's ethos: recorded live at The Apiary in Laval by Amaury Sauvé, mixed by Clément Libes at La Tanière in Copenhagen, and mastered in Paris by Adrien Pallot at Chab Mastering. Filmed and edited by Clara Griot and Emma Mari, it offers a behind‑the‑scenes glimpse into the making of Mourir's second full‑length and hints at what awaits those who encounter the Toulouse‑based ensemble on stage this summer.

Mourir explain the meaning behind "Feu d'un regard": "'Feu d'un regard' evokes the awakening after depression — that moment when light returns through a connection that restores meaning and momentum to life. It marks the end of a long wandering, the emergence from a bleak state where everything felt extinguished. The track captures the inner rebirth, the fragile thrill of returning to the light. It is a piece that is both melodic, intense, and contemplative, culminating in a powerful revelation: the feeling of having been freed from depression".

With a demo, a debut album and an experimental EP already behind them, the four‑piece retreated to the studio at the end of 2025 to compose the material for Nous, le venin. Recorded in January 2026 with Amaury Sauvé (Birds In Row, Igorrr, Pneu) at The Apiary Studio in Laval, the six tracks embody Mourir's distinctive approach to black metal. While rooted in old‑school influences, they lean into a more modern sound — one that allows the depth of their sonic decisions to shine. By blending sludge and post‑metal elements with the rawness of black metal, and pairing this with a mix that gives equal space to low‑end weight and high‑octane intensity, Mourir have created something both singular and captivating.

Lyrically and thematically, the band turn their detached gaze toward an increasingly untethered modern world — one inhospitable to those seeking meaning amid cruelty and absurdity. Yet within these tracks lie slivers of light, hope and luminosity: a belief that something better remains possible, woven through the melodic passages and the most celestial, ecstatic moments of their sound. The evocative cover art by Thomas Davezac captures the sense of disconnection that permeates the record.

With Nous, le venin, Mourir have crafted an album that cements their place among underground greats who eschew nostalgic convention and breathe new life into black metal. Raw emotion, modern vision and stylistic daring converge into a work that feels both liberated and liberating.

Mourir's forward‑thinking, boundary‑pushing approach to black metal — coupled with their uncompromising commitment to craft — marks the band out as one to watch as they take this new material to festivals across Europe, including Hellfest, Rock In Bourlon and Resurrection Festival in the months ahead (see below).
