Mortemia, the gothic metal project led by Norwegian multi-instrumentalist Morten Veland (Sirenia, ex-Tristania), has released the thirteenth instalment of The Cover Collab Sessions, an ongoing series of cover songs featuring a different guest vocalist on each track. This latest entry sees Mortemia reimagining the Pet Shop Boys' iconic 1987 hit "It's A Sin", with guest vocals provided by Jane Odintsova of the symphonic/power metal band Imperial Age.
Commenting on the collaboration, Morten Veland shared his enthusiasm for finally bringing the project to life: "I'm proud and honoured to welcome Jane Odintsova as my special guest for The Cover Collab Sessions. I first met Jane in England during Sirenia's last UK tour two years ago, and I've had Jane in mind for a possible collaboration ever since. I'm very pleased to announce that the time has finally come. We chose 'It's A Sin' by Pet Shop Boys, a song I remember vividly from when it was first released in 1987. I'm truly excited about the rendition Jane and I have created together, and we can't wait to share it with you all."
Jane Odintsova was equally excited about taking part in the project, highlighting both the challenge and appeal of transforming a beloved pop classic into a metal interpretation: "When I heard from Morten, I was both surprised and honoured. Turning a pop song into a metal track is one of the most exciting creative challenges, and 'It's A Sin' is far more than just another pop song. It's an iconic hit. Working on it alongside a legendary musician like Morten has been an incredible experience. Thank you, Morten, for inviting me to be part of this. I'm very excited for everyone to hear it. Stay tuned, it's going to be a blast!"
Blending Mortemia's signature gothic metal atmosphere with Odintsova's commanding vocal performance, the cover offers a darker and more dramatic interpretation of the Pet Shop Boys classic while remaining faithful to the spirit of the original.
