THE RAMONES – Tommy Ramone Died At The Age 62

Sad news stroke the music world, as Tommy Ramone, one of the founding members and the drummer of the legendary punk rock band The Ramones died on 11 July 2014 at the age of 62. Tommy Ramone (real name Thomas Erdelyi) was the last surviving member of the original line-up, since lead singer Joey Ramone, guitarist Johnny Ramone and bassist Dee Dee Ramone have all passed away a little more than eight years after the band's break-up in 1996. It was reported after Tommy Ramone's death, he had been undergoing bile duct cancer treatment in hospice. The Ramones were founded in 1974 in New York and were a major influence on the punk rock movement in the United States as well as United Kingdom and are often cited as a big influence from a variety of rock, metal and punk artists. They recorded 14 studio albums in their career. Let us remember him by his words: "It wasn't just music in The Ramones: it was an idea. It was bringing back a whole feel that was missing in rock music – it was a whole push outwards to say something new and different. Originally it was just an artistic type of thing; finally I felt it was something that was good enough for everybody." Link
